Christmas Traditions

Initial graders from the British International School, many of whom just turned 5 years old, celebrated their very first ever school Christmas. The children ready a Christmas play in Ukrainian and English for guests of the school and got presents from Father Frost and Snow Maiden.

The “Christmas Selection Concert” and “We are pleased to be near the Christmas tree” are just two of the plays guests of the school have seen between 13th and 16th of December. Throughout this period of time, students from the very first to the sixth grade celebrated Christmas and New Year in the European and Ukrainian style.

“In our school there are children not only from Ukraine, but also from other countries. Some pupils are from the USA or Europe exactly where it is traditional to prepare Christmas plays with biblical themes. Ukrainians are a lot more used to Father Frost and Snow Maiden who give presents and invite children to dance in a ring around the Christmas tree. We also have students from Arabic countries – for them Christmas celebration is really something special. That is why we tried to unite the Christmas traditions, so that our students could really feel the Christmas spirit and learn some thing new”, commented Phil Billing, Executive Director of the British International School.
