Bizarre Christmas Practices

Moving on and we can award Portugal, Spain and Italy with the gold medal for the ‘oddest Christmas Tradition’ award.! Did you know that the Italians, the Portuguese and the Spanish have an added character in the Nativity Play that we know and really like so much? Here comes the Caganer. Joining the shepherds along with Joseph, Mary and the small Jesus, is the Caganer which is a tiny model of a man, which is usually tucked away in the corner of model nativity scenes. Why is this character inconspicuously placed that no 1 can see him if he is so important? The Catalonia figure know as the Caganer is shown….. how can I put this, have a pooh!

Strangely sufficient, there is no record of the exact origin of this tradition but references date back to the 17th century. It is nonetheless a mystery as to why a figure of a man taking a poo has any relevance to Christmas Even so maybe God is attempting to use the Caganer as a means to show himself and call upon us whenever he feels needed and that he shows we are all equal in spite of race, gender or age. Needless to say the youngest in these countries have made quite a game of it!

Once Christmas is upon us it is down to us to attempt and quit children from obtaining bored. Even though we may well feel the tradition is a little strange, it appears the legend is a little closer to house to than we initial thought! May I present to you the pooing Santa! Would you believe me if I said this is the Caganer brought up to todays vision of the past! Candies truly fall out of Santa’s bottom if you tap it gently. Santa is wearing his customary red suit and to get things started 15 grams of candy are included. Basically fill him up and press down on his back for a small present! Should Santa suffer from a bout of constipation a small shake tends to get every thing out!
